Elementary Music Curriculum

Music

All students K-5 have music class one day each week during school. All K-5 students learn to play Orff instruments (xylophones and other classroom percussion instruments), Drums, and Guitars as well as the basics of singing and reading music. Grades 3-5 also learn to play the recorder starting in February. All Students chart their progress in a music journal which they may keep at the end of the school year.

 

VPK has violin class 2 days each week during school.

 

4th and 5th Grade Chorus is 1 day each week during school.

 

4th and 5th Grade Students have the opportunity to try out for All-state Chorus, All-State Orff, and All-County Chorus, Orff, and Drumming.

 

Rockin' Lions Before School Music Ensembles:

Mondays - Kindergarten Violins

Tuesdays - 1st Grade and beginning 2nd Grade Violins

Wednesdays - 2nd Grade Strings (violin, viola, or cello) - students must already have participated in 1st Grade before school violin

Thursdays - 3rd Grade Strings (violin, viola, cello, or guitar)

Fridays - 4th & 5th Grade Strings (violin, viola, cello, or guitar)

 

Rockin' Lions After School Music Ensembles:

Modern Band - Electric guitar, Electric Bass, Keyboard, Piano, Singing, Drum Set - Participation is limited; students must demonstrate performance skills on a Modern Band instrument or singing. Tryouts will be held during the first month of the school year. Grades 3-5. 

 

Traditional Band - Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet - Students must rent or purchase their own instrument, book, and music stand. Parents must attend an information meeting with Mrs. Jacob during the first month of the school year. Grades 3-5. 

 

Drumming Ensemble - World Music Drumming on Tubano Drums and other percussion instruments. Grades 1-5.
